KUCHING: A government pensioner here yesterday celebrated his 100th birthday – with a cake, gifts, a certificate of appreciation, a pensioner’s card and a visit from Public Services Department (PSD) director general Datuk Seri Borhan Dolah.
Ojen Liman, who suffers from hearing loss but is otherwise healthy, started working as a plant operator in 1951 under Kuching Municipal Council (KMC) now known as Kuching South City Council (MBKS).
He retired in 1975 and has been a pensioner for 44 years now. He lives at Jalan Lumba Kuda here.
During the visit, Borhan advised Sarawak Government Pensioners Association (SGPA) to maintain good ties with all government pensioners.
He also thanked the pensioners for their contributions to the country and urged them to continue serving their communities by sharing their experiences and expertise.
Apart from visiting Ojen, Borhan and his entourge also visited Aishah Md Malbari, the 93-year- old widow of a pensioner.
Aishah’s husband, Sepet Chee, was a chef in the Chief Minister’s Department. He retired on January 1, 1980 and later passed away on July 16, 1998.
Borhan also presented a certificate of appreciation, a pensioner’s card, wheelchair and assistance from the Malaysia Welfare Department to Aishah.
Borhan’s visits to Ojen and Aishah were organised in conjunction with the Civil Servant Pensioners programme which involved the Public Services Department, Social Welfare Department Kuching Division, Tabung Baitumal Sarawak and Sarawak Government Pensioners Association.
