BAU: Bung Bratak is all set to organise its annual Bung Bratak Day on May 1 on top of the historical 1,000-foot Bratak Hill.
Starting from 8am, this year’s festival would be very special as the Bung Bratak Heritage Centre (BBHC) has just been completed and open to the public.
Bung Bratak Heritage Association (BBHA) president Datuk Peter Minos said Education, Science, and Technological Research Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin is expected to officiate at the event.
“The festival will showcase unique Bidayuh music, dances, and “Dayung Sangon” (beauty pageant),” he told New Sarawak Tribune, yesterday.
He added that other activities lined up for the festival included a parade and cultural dances from the Bidayuh, Iban and Orang Ulu community.
“Besides enjoying the festival, visitors can also experience the beautiful scenery at Bung Bratak,” he said.
Minos also welcomes visitors to stay at the BBHC traditional Bidayuh longhouses for only RM100 per night inclusive of breakfast and lunch.
“Visitors can also see the 300-foot waterfall, enjoy fresh mountain air, spring water bath, wild birds, insects and more,” he said.
He added that according to Bidayuh elders who had lived on the hill and according to legend those having flu or fever will be cured after they bathed at the spring waterfall.
Bung Bratak is located in the Bau district and was the original settlement of the Bidayuh-Jagoi community from Mount Sungkong, Kalimantan, Indonesia more than 750 years ago. Today, Bung Bratak is one of the cultural heritage sites in Bau.
Bung Bratak Day is not only meant to commemorate the ancestors of the Jagoi community but has also become a cultural attraction and tourist destination.
