MIRI: A shop suspected of selling contraband liquor and cigarettes at Pujut Corner here was raided by enforcement officers from Miri Customs Department office around 5.30pm on Monday.

The during the raid the team found a total of 2,000 cigarette sticks and 45.39 litres of liquor of various brands valued at RM323.40 and with unpaid duties estimated at RM2,159.07.

A suspect was detained to assist in the investigation of the case which is being investigated under section 135 of the Customs Act, 1967 where an offender can be fined not less than 10 times the amount of unpaid customs duty or RM100,000 whichever amount is greater, and not more than 20 times the amount of unpaid customs duty or RM500,000 which ever amount is greater or a jail term not exceeding five years or both upon conviction.
