Questionable Putrajaya decisions seem to be attempts to further erode our rights: Lawyer
KUCHING: Putrajaya should stop testing the leadership of the Sarawak chief minister, said Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) legal advisor Voon Lee Shan.
The former state assemblyman said the federal government had made one blunder after another and Sarawakians are angry because they see these blunders as attempts to undermine the Gabungan Parti Sarawak government.
“The first (blunder) was the suit filed by Petronas against the government of Sarawak in 2018 in Putrajaya, but which was struck off on jurisdictional ground.
“Now, the latest was the failed attempt to move the High Court Registry to Kota Kinabalu.
“Clearly, Sarawakians could not be fooled because their rights are clearly stated in the Federal Constitution,” Voon said in a statement yesterday.
He said Putrajaya could not simply bulldoze its way without regards for the Constitution as if it took for granted that the Sarawak Chief Minister would not know or he would not dare fight back.
“Putrajaya should know by now, the chief minister could not just sit still and not worry a wee bit because Sarawakians are knowledgeable and will defend what is rightly theirs,” Voon said.
“After what happened in the last few days, I can see that the anti-Malaya voice is getting louder as more and more Sarawakians are getting very suspicious of any policy decisions coming from Putrajaya,” he said.
“I dare not surmise more, but Putrajaya should stop testing the leadership of the chief minister whose state government is not part of the central government.
“It should avoid making decisions that seem to be attempts to further erode the rights of Sarawakians.
“Or rather, if it must do something, at least have respect for the Constitution and not think that the Constitution need not be considered as the supreme law, but only guidelines on how to run the federation,” Voon added.
