Man with fake note detained for five days

KUCHING: A 35-year-old man who had used a fake RM100 note at the Siburan fun fair at 7.10pm on Monday was arrested in a coffeeshop at Siburan Village, yesterday.

This was revealed by Deputy Padawan Police chief, DSP Merbin Lisa.

Merbin confirmed that when the man had used the fake note to make payment but when the recipient realised that it was fake, refused to accept it. The two then argued over the note. The recipient later lodged a police report.

When the police went to the scene to check and after confirming that the note was fake, they arrested the suspect.

Merbin said the case will be investigated under Section 489B of the Penal Code.

The man is being detained for five days pending further investigation.

Meanwhile, Merbin urged traders to be observant when accepting money and to report immediately to the nearest police station if they discover any fake notes.
