To date there are eight agricultural collection, processing, and packaging centres (CPPC) throughout Sarawak.

Agriculture Assistant Minister Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the CPPCs are at Tarat in Serian, Layar and Spaoh in Betong, Lawas, Limbang, Sadong Jaya in Samarahan, Long Lama in Miri, and Sungai Baji in Sarikei.

“The one in Tarat is currently under construction,” he said.

Abdul Rahman said this in reply to a question asked by Bukit Begunan assemblyman Datuk Mong Dagang during the DUN sitting, yesterday.

The other CPPCs are still being designed or at the tender documentation stage and the building contracts are expected to be awarded this year.

“The CPPCs which are run by the private sector will assist in the production of commodities that meet international standards,” he said, adding that their development was also in line with the state government’s plan to make Sarawak a net food exporter by 2030.

On another question raised by Mong Dagang on whether a CPPC centre will be built in his constituency, Dr Abdul Rahman said the government would consider putting it in Bukit Begunan if there are farms in the area and there is potential to increase the area of production.

“The average cost to build a new CPPC range from RM500,000 to RM10 million,” he said.
