MIRI: Fire destroyed the staff quarters at an oil palm plantation in Sungai Keladan, Niah near here early yesterday.

The staff quarters at an oil palm plantation in Sungai Keladan, Niah in Miri destroyed by fire early yesterday.

In the incident at around 3.00am, three workers from Indonesia, known only as Rinto, Sarbani and Arwin, managed to rush out to safety.

Miri Zone Fire chief, Law Poh Kiong said eight personnel with a fire engine from Miri fire station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call 3.03am.

“Upon arrival, the single storey wooden house was already engulfed in flames. The firefighters douse the flames using water from the fire engine,” he said in a statement here.

Law said 100 per cent of the house was destroyed by fire.

“Fortunately, no injury or casualty was reported in the incident. The estimated loss and cause of the fire are still under investigation,” he said.
