Gas leakage in Lawas under control

LAWAS:   Six firemen from Lawas Fire Station were despatched to a pipeline station valve in Long Segaman early yesterday morning upon receiving an alarm on gas leakage there.

Fortunately, no injury was reported in the 1.37 am incident.

Also moblised to the scene were six Petronas SSGP personnel.

According to Lawas Fire Station chief Zaki Hussin, upon their arrival at the scene, fire was spotted at one of the sections.

The operation to extinguish and control the fire ended at 2.42am.

Petronas SSPG engineers at the scene immediately shut down one of the pipeline valves.

Long Segaman, in Lawas, is one of the Sabah-Sarawak Gas Pipeline (SSGP) and it is a 500-km Malaysia natural gas pipeline connecting Kimanis in Sabah down to Bintulu in Sarawak.

The pipeline is part of the Petronas development project of Sabah-Sarawak Integrated Oil and Gas project since 2014.
