The state government will continue to emphasise the implementation of urban renewal projects and service centres.

“Overseen by Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), the projects are to improve the communities’ quality of life through employment opportunities, provision of basic infrastructure, affordable housing and other public amenities,” Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan said yesterday.

Touching on the urban renewal projects, he said, “The Darul Hana Project will continue with its provision of infrastructure. The construction of 564 houses for Blocks 1A and 2A is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.

“The site clearing and the earth filling works for Phase 2 of the Bedaun Development Project are set to be completed by the end of this year.

“434 houses will be built in the area for the extended families from the Darul Hana area. These are expected to be completed by the end of 2020.

“The site clearing and earth filling work for the Kemuyang Project in Sibu is in progress. A total of 813 affordable houses will be built there.

“Work on the basic infrastructure and 186 houses is on-going and expected to be completed by October 2020.”

On the service centres, Awang Tengah said they aimed to narrow the economic gap between urban and rural areas.

The six service centres, which had been approved would be at Sebuyau New Township in Samarahan, Sungai Lingga Waterfront and Lingga Service Centre in Sri Aman, Matading Service Centre in Mukah, Ulu Merapok Service Centre in Lawas and Kampung Datu Waterfront at Kuala Lawas, he said.
