KUCHING: The Jelajah Ramadan Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) Sarawak will take place from May 14-24. Six RTM Sarawak branches will carry out the programme in Kuching, Sri Aman, Sibu, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang.
The programme will be organised throughout the state beginning with Lawas District in Limbang (May 14) followed by Kampung Kawang, Bekenu in Miri (May 15), Dewan Muktamar, Kampung Jabai in Bintulu (May 15), Kampung Medong Hilir, Dalat in Sibu (May 20), Kampung Pulau Seduku in Sri Aman (May 22) and Masjid Darul Ikhwan, Kampung Muara Tebas in Kuching (May 22).
RTM Sarawak director Zainal Abidin Asri Abdul Wahid said the programme would include gotong-royong, providing assistance to orphans and the poor as well as food distribution.
“The flag-off ceremony took place at JOHORfm on May 5 while the closing ceremony of Jelajah Ramadan will take place at Wisma Radio, Angkasapuri Kuala Lumpur on May 28,” Zainal said at a press conference here yesterday.
“This year will mark its eighth edition with the theme ‘Sucinya Ramadan’. RTM will continue to use the programme as a platform to engage with the poor and the needy.
“The concept ‘berambeh’ (visiting overnight) with the villagers will be able to foster ties between RTM and them,” he said.
The programme is a joint collaboration with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), Padiberas Nasional Bhd (Bernas), Miap Restaurant Sdn Bhd, Lea Sports Centre, CCK Kuching and Hotel Sri Malaysia (JR Limbang).
The programme was initiated in 2012 and has been acknowledged by the Malaysia Book of Records as the longest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme in Malaysia with the implementation of 38 activities throughout the nation.
Meanwhile, SARAWAKfm will also organise special programmes during the Aidilfitri celebration. Also present at the press conference was SARAWAKfm assistant manager Abdul Khalid Suud.
