Over 300 attend college’s PTA meeting

KUCHING: More than 300 people attended the Matang Vocational College’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTAs) Annual General Meeting at the college premises here, recently.

Director of the college, Haji Mohamad Sahran Haji Amin said those who attended comprised local community leaders and village chiefs as well as parents of the students.

“The attendance to the meeting particularly from the parents is very encouraging and beyond our expectation. Your support reflects the increasing awareness among parents on the important role played by the PTA in assisting the college in infrastructure, academic and co-curricular development,” he said when declaring open the AGM.

Mohamad Sahran also called for continuous support from the parents in the implementation of programmes and activities at the college.

“Sometimes the college will organise fund-raising activities either to improve infrastructure facilities in the college or to finance its educational programmes. Thus, the college management needs your cooperation to ensure the objectives can be achieved,” he said.

“This year, the college will be collaborating with industries to facilitate its graduates’ entry into the job market,” he said.

Meanwhile, the newly elected PTAs committee for the year 2017-2019 term are Cr Henry Simon Rimau as chairman with Othman Haji Samaon as the vice-chairman. The secretary is Benny Menik with Farah Wahida Mohamad Zinin as his assistant. Liew Siew Foong is the treasurer.  Four teachers and six parents were also appointed as working committee members. They are Mathias Michael Nanyu, Nurul Farhana Md.Daud, Anuar Uli, Pauline Reagan, Ramos Jepos, Sofi Jenal, Hadilah Mantali, Vin Son, Latipah Abg Ndak and Siti Rohani Abdullah.
