KUCHING: Kampung Tematu will host Dayung Gawea Tematu 2017 through its Gawai Tematu Carnival 2017 on this coming 23rd and 24th June.

The pageant competition held in conjunction with Gawai festival is open to all single Bidayuh’s ladies, aged between 17 and 30 years of old.  Admission is RM50 per person.

Prizes offered for the champion include RM1,600 cash, bouquet, sash, trophy, hamper and certificates.

First runner-up will brought back home RM1,300.00 cash, bouquet, sash, trophy, hamper and certificate while second runner-up will walk away with RM1,000.00 cash, bouquet, sash, trophy, hamper and certificate. Other finalists apart from the top three will not go home empty-handed as each will win a consolation price of RM100 cash, hamper and certificate.

There are also subsidiary titles up for grabs that include Miss Talent, Miss Popularity, Miss Personality, Miss Photogenic, and Best Costume. The winner for each subsidiary title will receive RM200 cash, trophy and sash.

For all interested contestants must fill the application form online at https://goo.gl/forms/x4aDEAMH8vspWiOs1 before or by 20th May 2017 (Saturday). 

Please bring along your full-length (full body) photograph (4R) during registration day on 21st May 2017 (Sunday).

Attire for the registration day is Black T-Shirt and Blue Jean and compulsory to use high heels (minimum 3 inches high).

On the carnival, various activities are to be held to enliven the event such as sales fiesta of agriculture products, food and drinks sales as well as exhibition from government agencies.

Also held is the blood donation campaign as well as free medical checkup and dental checkup by health department.

Besides that, a traditional dress competition for kids below eight years old is also held with only RM10 admission fee.

Public are invited to attend and are encouraged to wear traditional attire of Bidayuh, Iban or Orang Ulu by which they will be entitled for the best traditional costume prize.

There is also a lucky draw ticket sale which offers special prizes such as electric products and hampers. 

Birogong competition (traditional instruments competition) is also to be held with RM50 admission fee.
