SRI AMAN: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday announced that the state government was ready to hand over RM300 million for the repair and rebuilding of dilapidated schools in the state.
“The RM300 mln is now ready for the first phase of the repair and rebuilding of dilapidated schools in Sarawak while the remaining balance of the RM1 billion will be given in stages.
“The project is estimated to take two years, he said when officiating at the state-level Teacher’s Day here yesterday.
Explaining why he was stressing very much on the repair and rebuilding of dilapidated schools in the state, Abang Johari said, “Education can help a person further his journey in this lifetime.”
He added, “If we want to educate our children, of course, we want the environment of the classes and the schools to be conducive. We want the children to enjoy their school experience.
“Sarawak also aims to be a role model state in year 2030, so education plays an important role in this matter.”
In his address, Abang Johari also advised educators to use technology in the classroom.
“Use technology and creativity when teaching so that the students will enjoy the learning process,” he said.
The Chief Minister added that Sarawak had agreed to be the first state to implement the teaching of Mathematics and Science in English for primary schools in the state.
Saying that it was a very brilliant decision by the state government, Abang Johari added, “In order to make the students understand and use the basic English language in secondary schools, the implementation of this decision is very good as it will enhance the quality of our education here.
“We will also need to train our educators more in using English language in primary schools so that they can deliver the messages clearly for the students to understand.”
