ENGKILILI  State Assemblyman, Johnical Rayong Ngipa yesterday requested the government to improve access roads in his constituency.

“Among the affected roads are Ulu Skrang Road from Ng. Murad to Sg. Sepaya, where the bridges, drains and roadsides keep collapsing especially during the wet season, Stuga/Basi/Tanjung/Pedalai Road to Brayun, Sri Aman, Lidong/Tisak Road to the bank of the Batang Ai River across Batang Ai in Sri Aman, and a new road from Mario/Merindum to Merebong  and Engkilili Town,”  Johnical revealed in his debate speech in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN)sitting in Kuching.

The State Assemblyman also requested the government to consider building  some   bridges to facilitate easy crossing between both banks of rivers.

“A bridge at Nanga Entalau is needed to connect a primary school, a clinic and longhouses on both sides of the Skrang River.

“Using long boats across the river, especially during the flooding season, is dangerous for all users.

“A bridge across the Batang Ai River at Merbong connecting Mario, Merindun,  Merbong and Engkilili is also needed.

“It will be easier for the people to send their children to SK Engkilili No.1, SKB Chung Hua, SMK Engkilili and SK Engkilili No.2 and to send their agriculture products to Engkilili Town,” said Johnical.

He revealed that at the moment, users could only cross the river by using a suspension bridge.
