MIRI: Police have arrested five people, including two siblings, for allegedly stealing a 2,300-litre stainless steel water tank from the Association of Parents with Special Children (Pibakis) centre in Lutong.

There suspects were detained here late Saturday evening.

CCTV footage of the suspects breaking into the centre on Friday night had gone viral on the social media.

The suspects are aged between 21 and 28.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed the arrest yesterday.

“The suspects were arrested during raids at four different locations, namely Kampung Merikan Lutong, Kampung Tulang Lutong, Kampung Pasir in Lutong and Kampung Pujut Padang Kerbau,” he said.

The first arrest was made at Kampung Merikan in Lutong where two siblings aged 28 and 21 were nabbed.

“Police also found the stolen water tank,” Lim added.

The operation started at 3.45pm and ended at 5.10pm.

The offence is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
