KUCHING: Cooperation between the Sarawak government and Huawei will not be affected despite the global pressure on the China-based telecommunication company.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg (pic) said the development of Sarawak’s ICT infrastructure, particularly on 5G with Huawei would go on.

“Our side is not affected, and we will carry on with the collaboration,” he said when met by reporters after the breaking of fast with Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) employees at a hotel here last night.

In April, strategic cooperation between the Sarawak government and Huawei Malaysia was strengthened after a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the Centre for Technical Excellence in Sarawak (Centexs) and SMA.

Centexs and SMA will continue to support the state’s digital transformation agenda dedicated to develop the field of digital talent and technology innovation.

On May 20, American multinational technology company Google made an announcement that it would no longer provide Android support for future Huawei phones due to a ban order.
