MIRI: The federal government is committed to help promote the ‘Buy Malaysia Products’ campaign.

According to Senator Alan Ling, this can be achieved by intensifying the campaign to globally promote the products.

He added that recently, AirAsia has been working with the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) in an effort to help develop local entrepreneurs.

“The government through KPDNHEP will provide access for entrepreneurial programmes and business guidance,” he said.

He further added that the government’s allocation of RM20 million could help propel the campaign further.

“It will for sure encourage and provide a platform for our local manufacturers and service providers.

“I also hope it could create awareness for all of us to give our support to local products,” he said.

Ling also explained that the government intends to assist in enhancing and supporting locally manufactured products to be permanently placed in hypermarkets, supermarkets, stores and petrol stations as well as the Consumer Economic Shop Initiative (i-KeeP) programme through sponsorship and incentive of listing fees, promotion and publicity as well as space rental and retail shelves in hypermarkets and convenience stores.

Referring to the RM20 million allocation, he said it will also be applied to organising sales carnivals of local products throughout the country as well as trade missions in order to promote Malaysian products abroad.

“The government, through SSM (Companies Commission of Malaysia) Biz Grant, will also assist local entrepreneurs to register with SSM as well as to get financing for their businesses,” he said.
