KUCHING: Sarawak CID chief SAC Denis Leong Soon Kuai said police have identified the suspect who assaulted and shot a Grab driver Thursday afternoon.
Leong when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune said the suspect had previous records and the whole incident was premeditated by the suspect.
He said tracker dogs failed to smell out the suspect in the jungle and police believed that someone was there to pick up the suspect.
The motive of the attack, he said, was plain robbery.
Leong said it being Ramadan month, it was normal to have a surge in violent crimes involving foreigners.
“We have prepared for this sort of incidents to be much worse,” he said.
Leong said many detectives were placed at border towns like Bau, Lundu and Serian and there were numerous joint operations and roadblocks carried out.
According to him, in the past few weeks, there have been a number of armed robberies carried out at the outskirts of towns and at 24-hour convenience stores.
Almost all of these robberies were carried out by foreigners, he added.
