Kuching has 40 Gawai babies

KUCHING: Forty babies were born in hospitals here on the first day of Gawai Dayak.

Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) recorded the birth of 35 babies.

Eighteen of them were girls.

The heaviest child weighed 3.98kg while the lightest was 1.14kg.

Meanwhile, the babies comprised 20 Malays, Bidayuh (eight), Iban (four), Chinese (two) and one Melanau.

Borneo Medical Centre recorded three babies, two of them girls. The first baby was delivered at 9am.

Lundu Hospital and KPJ Kuching Specialist Hospital welcomed one baby each.
