KABONG: Rehabilitation measures taken against dengue for Kampung Hilir Darat are still far from adequate to free the village from the epidemic, as recently announced by the Health Department.
Kabong assemblyman Mohd Chee Kadir said there was a shortage of garbage treatment contracts in the village, but that was not an issue as the residents were also responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of their home.
“As a result, I have approved a stagnant drainage project in the village to prevent Aedes mosquitoes from breeding, which prevents dengue fever outbreaks,” he said during a visit to Kampung Hilir Darat yesterday.
Recently, Mohd Chee said some villages in Kabong recorded 12 cases of dengue epidemics. Kampung Wawasan, Kampung Sungai Benang, Kampung Hulu and Kampung Lintang are now labeled as “hot spot” epidemics.
However, he said, no deaths have been reported so far.
“The increase in dengue cases is particularly alarming and we need to work harder to ensure that this risk can be prevented early.
“This issue needs to be solved collectively and not just relying on the health department, local authorities, or elected representatives,” he said.
