KUCHING: Miss World Talent 2014 Dewi Liana Seriestha who will make her appearance at the state-level Gawai Dayak celebration at Imperial Hotel here on Saturday night is expected to sing “Don Juan Triumphant” from a renowned musical “The Phantom of The Opera.”
It will be the same song she sang at the Miss World 2014 in London and eventually made her the winner of the Miss World Talent 2014 at the competition defeating McKeating of Scotland and 120 other contestants from around the world.
Dewi when met during the rehearsal here yesterday said she is excited to perform at the function and hoped that she could add excitement to the celebration.
“Yes, I am very excited and I am looking forward to the show,” she said and thanked the organiser for inviting her to perform and join in the celebration.
She added that although she will be singing only one song the Saturday night performance is a special one because it is about Gawai Dayak celebration and she will be accompanied by 12 Dayung Sangon, Kumangs and Kiligits as well as six Kelings.
The 29-year-old, who is of Indonesian and Bidayuh parentage had been involved in pursuing a music career for 13 years and had produced three singles. She is also a song writer and model.
In July 2014, she represented Malaysia at the World Championship of Performing Arts (dubbed the ‘Olympics of Performing Arts’) in Los Angeles and won six awards in the vocal categories.
A few months after that, she represented Malaysia in Miss World 2014 where she won the Miss Talent title.
In the final rounds of the talent title Dewi outshone Miss Scotland to win the title.
The international achievements opened doors to various opportunities in hosting and modelling as well as her first love – singing.
Dewi signed with Warner Music Malaysia in 2015.
Dewi released her first single Hati Telah Dimiliki in 2015, Seindah Berdua in 2016 and an English song I Love You this year.
Her years of hard work finally paid off when the ballad came out among the top 30 songs in the country to the semi-finals of the Muzik Muzik, a prestigious song competition.
Dewi said she would record her fourth single this month and hoped that it would be released soon.
