MIRI: The Swift Wildlife Action Team (SWAT) of Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) had another successful crocodile culling operation, this time involving the capture and removal of a 17.1-foot-long crocodile from Sg Suai, Niah near here on Saturday.
“Our SWAT received a report from the villagers on 12 May (Friday) that a large crocodile had been seen frequently lurking in the said river.
Responding to the report, a team from SFC Miri was dispatched to the location on 14 May. Three units of baited hooks were set up to lure and capture the crocodile.
“The croc finally took one of the baits yesterday and was subsequently pulled ashore and restrained. The crocodile was a male and its weight could probably reach up to 1-tonne.
“Due to its extremely large size, it required an excavator to remove the croc from the riverbank onto the lorry before being transferred to the Benaya Crocodile Farm,” said a statement issued by SFC.
The corporation thanked the villagers and the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel who had assisted in this successful removal operation.
