MIRI: Drugs worth RM57,500 and weighing 51,131.6g were seized by the police on Tuesday following the arrest of an unemployed man.

MIRI police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed the arrest yesterday.

He said the 33-year-old suspect was detained by a team from the Miri Narcotic Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) at 10.50am by the roadside on the way to Kampung Lopeng, Jalan Miri-Bintulu.

The suspect was riding on a motorcycle when he was stopped by the police.

“When they checked him, police found a transparent plastic packet containing 31.26g of a substance, believed to be methamphetamine,” said Lim.

They immediately brought him to the NCID lock-up for further questioning.

Lim added during an interrogation later on, the suspect told the police where his remaining drugs were.

The seized drugs found inside the hotel room.

“The information given led the police to a room in a budget hotel at Jalan North Yu Seng. There, they found more drugs,” he said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had used the room to keep the drugs.
