KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will continue its efforts to develop the state.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg assured that work to push Sarawak towards digital economy would be better served under the leadership of GPS.

“GPS will always give priority and commitment to the people of Sarawak,” he said during the ‘ngiling bidai’ ceremony to mark the end of Gawai Dayak here yesterday.

He added that the state government was prioritising knowledge transfer and capital development training programmes in efforts to move towards digital economy.

Abang Johari also called on youths to participate in digital innovation programmes.

As for the housing issue, “The Mutiara mortgage company (owned by GPS) will help to provide loans for those who wish to own houses.

“Under the scheme, the price of the house has been reduced. We also funded all basic amenities such as drainage system,” he said.

The chief minister revealed that four squatter villages would be upgraded — Kampung Segedup, Setapok, Sungai Maong and Batu Kawa.

On the issue of the lack of cemetery space, Abang Johari acknowledged that this was a problem and would be discussed and looked into.
