KUCHING: Muslims in the state are advised to strengthen their Islamic knowledge and education to face the changing world.
“Knowledge in Islam is of the utmost importance today in the face of an increasingly advanced technology that has helped shape the modern world.
“Hence, Islamic agencies in Sarawak should play a more active and proactive role in delivering knowledge to Muslims. Ultimately, this will help improve the state’s economy,” said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in his speech at Majlis Kesyukuran Aidilfitri here yesterday.
He called on Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) together with all the Islamic agencies and NGOs to prioritise the economic development of Muslims.
“This is an important agenda because when the economy is strong, Muslims will be respected.
“As such, it is time for MIS to look at the approaches and strategies to enhance the position of the ummah in the preparatory stage towards making Sarawak an advanced state by 2030,” he said.
Abang Johari then pointed out that with strong economic growth there were many things that could be done to enhance the capability of the ummah and the social capital of Muslims.
Meanwhile, the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) president Datuk Misnu Taha said the ummah are prepared to strengthen the community via knowledge.
More than 1,000 Muslims attended the event where more than 20 booths were put up by the various Islamic agencies.
