DARO: Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad said Finance Minister’s Lim Guan Eng’s remarks that Sarawak would go bankrupt in three years were unprofessional and politically motivated.

He added that Lim only looked at the budget allocated without taking into account Sarawak’s income and savings.

“Lim’s remarks seem to reflect his inexperience in spite of holding an important portfolio as the Federal Finance Minister.”

Such unfounded statement could lead to fear and loss of confidence among foreign investors in the state and country,” he said at an Aidilfitri and Ngiling Bidai event in Kampung Penasu here yesterday.

Earlier in his speech, Safiee said the Gawai and Aidilfitri celebrations were the best platform to further strengthen relations among the people.

He said mutual respect was most important because it would create a harmonious atmosphere that could help the government’s efforts to implement more development for the people.

He also reminded parents in the rural areas not to neglect their children’s education.

Without proper education, he said, the younger generation would not be able to compete in a highly competitive global arena.

“Today, things have changed and poverty is no longer a reason not to send children to school,” he said.

At the function, he donated RM5,000 each to Penasu Al-Ikhlas mosque management committee, Kampung Penasu Development and Security Committee (JKKK), PIBG Kampung Penasu and RM3,000 each to JKKK Rumah Gitai and JKKK Rumah Jolanas Lapok.
