LUBOK ANTU: The long wait for clean water supply is finally over for Rumah Bayung Kumpang Langgir residents.

A gravity fed water system under the Rural Water Supply Project is now bringing them clean water.

Longhouse chief Tuai Rumah Baying Kadam said they were relieved.

“With this constant supply of clean water, our lives will be easier and we don’t have to worry about our safety and health,” he said at the launch of the gravity fed water system officiated by Lubok Antu MP Jugah Muyang yesterday.

Baying said earlier, 140 residents from 26 longhouses located about 16 km from Engkilili town, were dependent on nearby water sources and rivers for their daily needs.

He added that there were times when the rivers were muddy or murky, especially after heavy rains.

During the drought season, they had to look for other sources of water.

Baying added the lack of clean water supply caused problems during events such as marriages and funerals.

He urged the state and federal governments to be jointly responsible for providing basic facilities in his constituency.

During the event, Jugah also announced an allocation of RM130,000 to help the longhouse repair its roof.

At the same time, he also donated a grant of RM30,000 to the longhouse’s Village and Security Committee (JKKK).
