KUCHING: An Indonesian woman, 36, was stabbed on her head, neck and stomach by a fellow Indonesian at about 1am yesterday at the Stutong Commercial Centre in Jalan Setia Raja here.
Kuching police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said the victim, who was working in a coffee shop at the centre, had known her attacker for six months.
It is not known why the suspect, who worked in a furniture shop near the coffee shop, stabbed the woman.
Awang Din said the man fled the scene after the incident and the police are hunting for him.
The case was being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code, he added.
In the incident yesterday, the victim was heard screaming for help in her dormitory room on the third floor of the building.
Her colleagues, who heard her, ran to her aid but by the time they arrived by her side, the suspect had disappeared.
An ambulance called to the scene rushed the victim to Sarawak General Hospital where she was said to be in a stable condition.
