MIRI: The Miri City Council (MCC) achieved a new milestone yesterday with the handing over of a key to the “Miri Community Green Hub” in its effort to promote recycling activities.

The ceremony, held yesterday afternoon after the full council meeting, was witnessed by Mayor Adam Yii and his deputy Julaihi Mohamad.

The symbolic hand-over of the key was received by Local Agenda 21 and the hub’s chairman Karambir Singh. The hub, which is located at Taman Yakin, consists of 23 containers designed as a building and was completed in May this year.

“The green hub uses containers and will operate with minimal electric consumption,” said Yii.

He added that the hub will not only be used to conduct activities related to recycling but also exhibitions and
awareness talks.

“It would be a centre for the community,” he said.

He added that the public could use the facilities in the hub such as seminar room, meeting room and multipurpose room with minimal rental fee.
