KUCHING: Kuching Polytechnic Sarawak (PKS) has 1,161 new students registered for its June intake.
The figure is expected to increase to 1,244 based on the number of those who have accepted the polytechnic’s offers but have yet to register at the campus in Jalan Matang here.
During the closing of the polytechnic’s orientation week at the campus, PKS director Jamaliah Ahmad said the figure exceeded the normal intake limit set by the Department of Polytechnic Education (JPP) and Department of Community College (JKK), Education Ministry.
“I believe this is a clear signal that parents and youths are starting to realise that technical and vocational education training (TVET) is important today in line with the government’s efforts to turn it into mainstream education in the country,” she said.
According to Jamaliah, TVET could produce skilled and trained manpower and the graduates could even create their own job opportunities.
Being the country’s biggest TVET provider, PKS together with 36 other polytechnics nationwide are always committed to churning out quality, holistic, and balanced graduates who are highly sought after.
“We also want them to possess entrepreneurial characteristics that can turn them into job creators,” she said.
