KUALA LUMPUR: Vivian Wong was sworn in as the new Member of Parliament for Sandakan in the Dewan Rakyat, earlier today.

The swearing-in was before Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Datuk Mohamad Ariff Mohd Yusof before the second meeting of the second session of the 14th Parliament.

Wong, 30, daughter of the late incumbent MP for Sandakan, Datuk Stephen Wong Tien Fatt, won with an 11,521-vote majority in the by-election for the seat last May 11.

She defeated four contenders, namely Datuk Linda Tsen Thau Lin, 63, from Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), and independent candidates, Hamzah Abdullah, 65, Chia Siew Yung, 46, and Sulaiman Samat, 36.
