KUCHING: A woman who has been released by the Indonesian authorities in Kalimantan was deported back to Kuching and SUPP’s Public Complaint Bureau chief, Wilfred Yap thanked the Malaysia Consulate in Pontianak for its efficiency and professionalism in handling the matter.
Yap was approached by the elder brother of the Sarawakian woman last April seeking for help.
The woman was arrested by Indonesian authorities after she had entered Kalimantan, Indonesia through Serikin using a “jalan tikus” without a valid passport.
Yap had communicated and written to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Malaysian Consulate General in Pontianak to request for their assistance for the Sarawakian woman to ensure her welfare, basic including medical needs are taken care of and to speed up the legal process.
He said he is issuing a press statement to warn Sarawakians not to enter Indonesia illegally through “jalan tikus” and without a valid passport and also to remind Sarawakians to comply with Indonesia’s immigration regulations and to apply for a visa (where required) in accordance with the purpose of their visit.
SUPP PCB also hopes that the public will be more careful in their decisions and be law abiding as it will go a long way for them not to get into the wrong side of the law.
