SARIKEI: People need to build their resolve to stay united and reject elements that can cause hatred and racism.
Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii who was represented by Penghulu Huang Tiong Kang said that a conducive environment is when multi-religious and multi-racial societies can live in peace and harmony.
“Racial harmony, healthy economy, public safety and high quality education are vital to ensure progress and development,” he said during a ‘Ngiling Bidai’ (Gawai closing) at Kampung Baru, Jalan Langsat here, yesterday.
He added that unity should not be taken lightly and must always be maintained and upheld.
He also urged NGOs in the district to be more proactive by organising programmes to foster unity and attract young people to prevent them from getting involved in unhealthy activities.
According to him, NGOs play an active role in ensuring racial harmony.
“Voluntary organisations must be active in order to empower society in the various aspects including welfare, education, economy and social,” he pointed out.
