KUCHING: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Sarawak chapter’s interim secretary Jaziri Alkaf Abdillah Suffian does not think that his chief Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan’s statement as rhetorical and malicious.

He qualified this by saying that Mohd Redzuan was speaking from his experience of working in the oil and gas sector in Sarawak for over 30 years ago.

“Indeed 30 years have passed and not much has been developed in rural areas,” Jaziri said to New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

Mohd Redzuan, the Entrepreneur Development Minister, who was here for a gathering organised by Bersatu Sarawak, had claimed that despite being a rich state, the people, especially rural Sarawakians, were not enjoying the wealth, and attributed this to corrupt leaders.

In response, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy youth chief Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said Mohd Redzuan was making a “rhetorical and malicious political statement”.

Jaziri, however, insisted Mohd Redzuan was voicing the sentiment of the people.

“Fazzrudin should open his eyes to see our initiatives that are focused on improving a better socio-economic in Sarawak”, he pointed out.

Jaziri said one of Bersatu’s initiatives had already started and this was an MD2 pineapple project involving 1,652 entrepreneurs.

Jaziri said participants were expected to increase to 6,000 soon, covering lands in Bintulu, Lawas, Limbang and Julau.

“The revenue forecast is expected to reach RM36 million and the pineapple agreement to be export to China has also been agreed upon,” he said.
