KUCHING: The public who want to attend the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) at Damai are advised to make full use of shuttle buses provided to minimise their carbon footprint.

The festival is “going green” and festival goers are urged to share the same viewpoint, said a spokesman of the organising committee.

The most anticipated event will open its gates to the public from 10am today until Sunday.

The organising committee expects more than 24,000 festival goers this year, thus they are also expecting heavy traffic along the road leading to Damai.

“Preparation is at its height and we are currently on schedule for final checks before the big day.”

The pick-up points for the shuttle buses in the city are at The Hills, Riverside Majestic Hotel, Plaza Merdeka Shopping Mall, MBKS Recreation Park bus stop and Penview Hotel.

The organiser said they were also working closely with taxi associations in Kuching and the normal budget (red and yellow) taxis which charge RM55 for a one-way trip while the blue six-seater executive taxi charges RM65 per trip from the city centre to the RWMF venue.

E-hailing vehicles are not allowed to enter the festival ground and festival goers are not allowed to bring mineral water bottles.

The organiser has placed 20 water dispensers throughout the venue and visitors only need to bring their own bottles, cups or tumblers for refilling.
