BINTULU: The responsibility to combat the spread of dengue falls on the shoulders of all members of the community, says Bintulu district education officer Fred Entau.

“We spend a lot of money to protect ourselves from threats such as security and property loss but we constantly disregard the need to protect ourselves from Aedes mosquito at our residences,” he said at Karnival Cegah Denggi organised by SK Tanjung Batu here last Saturday.

Fred pointed out that the eggs of Aedes mosquito could last until six months in a dry environment and would hatch if there was a single drop of water in the area.

“That is why we have to raise the awareness among the community on the importance to clean their environment so that we can rid ourselves from the threat of the Aedes mosquito.”

SK Tanjung Batu was selected to proceed to the national-level Dengue Patrol programme to raise awareness on the disease among students and the public.
