KOTA SAMARAHAN: Police have classified the death of a man found in a muddy drain near the Peat Soil Research Institute here as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Samarahan police chief, DSP Lee Chong Chern, in confirming this, said the man might be a foreigner as there were no signs of vaccinations on either of his arms.

A passer-by saw the body of the man lying face down in the drain at about 7.45am yesterday. He was wearing a long-sleeved T- shirt and a pair of blue jeans. His hands were tied at the back.

A police team, which went to the scene, found his hands were tied with a piece of “pua kumbu” (hand woven native design) fabric.

Lee said the man had no shoes and no documents on him. His body was brought to the Sarawak General Hospital morgue for post mortem.

He added the post mortem revealed that the man, who was about five feet six inches tall, had injuries under his right eye, chin, jaw and neck. He was believed to have died six to eight hours before his body was found.
