KUCHING: The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Chairman, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye (pic) has called upon Malaysia Airlines to review its crew limitation policy.

He was commenting on an incident involving flight MH128 from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur which was forced to turn back to Melbourne due to a “disruptive passenger”.

“It has to review the number of crew put on board for each flight as the issue is not only about sufficient crew to provide service to passengers but also to look after the overall safety of the aircraft.

“With regard to what happened in Melbourne, if there were more manpower, they could have kept an eye on passengers and see if anyone was behaving suspiciously,” Lee told a press conference at Pullman Hotel here on Thursday.

At the same time, he praised the passengers on board for performing their civic duties in helping to overpower and contain the suspect concerned.

“Let this be a lesson to Malaysia Airlines. It is high time that it reviews its crew limitation policy to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers,” added Lee.
