SRI AMAN: The Civil Defence Force (APM) has destroyed 17 beehives of various sizes here for public safety.

Sri Aman District APM Captain (PA) Siti Huzaimah Ibrahim said the task of destroying the nest was not an easy one.

“However, to date, all cases have been cleared as we have skillful personnel.

“With the removal of a big beehive at a school last Thursday, that makes up a total of 17 beehives that were removed,” she said.
Meanwhile, one of the personnel, Muhammad Zulkarnie Dawi said the smallest beehive ever destroyed was the size of a tennis ball.

“One of the most difficult situations was when destroying a beehive found at the telecommunication tower at Pasukan Gerakan Am (PGA) Temudok Camp which required us to climb 30 feet up as it was above the tower,” he explained.

He added that it was more challenging to destroy the beehives at night, although it is a common procedure.
