KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) is confident that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will set a direction for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the coming 12th state election to fight against the state Pakatan Harapan (PH).

SUPP president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said this when reporters pressed him for comments on the remarks made by state PH chairman chairman Chong Chieng Jen during the Sarawak PH dinner that in the state election, it would be a ‘government-to-government (G2G) fight’ between a national and state party, and said it would be the “battle of the century”.

“I am very sure Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also the Home Minister, has spoken to the chief minister.

“And being the chief of GPS, he (Abang Johari) will set the direction,” he told reporters as he arrived at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, yesterday.

When asked what SUPP’s strategy would be, he refused to comment but said, “We will wait to hear from the chief minister… Because it is G2G, it is not only me or SUPP, but we all have to do it together at one go.”

Meanwhile, regarding the speculation that SUPP would be contesting 20 seats in the election, Sim remained tight-lipped and refused to comment further.

Reporters were chasing him around as he tried to enter the elevator and managed to get him to answer one last question on whether Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) — led by Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh — was SUPP’s biggest threat, to which Sim also did not want to touch on.

“That is your (reporters’) interpretation. Not all seats are going to be contested by PSB.”

Earlier, Sim was believed to have a meeting with the chief minister in his office.
