KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will continue to work with the federal government for as long as it respects and honours its responsibility to Sarawak under the Federal Constitution and continues to respect the spirit of Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) supreme council member Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said the relationship between GPS and PH had been declared and mentioned many times.

“Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has openly said that we in GPS will work with the current federal government for as long as it is good for Sarawak and its people,” he said.

Ahmad added GPS and PH were not enemies. However, if there was any intention to demean Sarawak or the GPS leaders, then GPS would fight to correct what was considered wrong or unjust to Sarawak.

He said Sarawak PH chairman and Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen must remember GPS were not the enemies of PH.

“We will respect and reciprocate its kindness and support to GPS and Sarawak.

“However, if Chong and his Democratic Action Party (DAP) continue to bash the GPS leaders and do not fulfill their promises to the people of Sarawak as listed in the PH election manifesto in the last election, then they are not true to themselves, their supporters and the people of Sarawak,” he pointed out.

During the Sarawak PH dinner themed “Harapan Sarawak Baru” at Imperial Hotel on Sunday night, Chong said GPS must be defeated to ensure that the “unholy coalition” of PAS and Umno would not succeed.
