Last Friday, Gizmodo spotted a video published by Sony’s crowdfunding site First Flight showing off a portable mini air conditioner/heater that fits in your pocket.
Earlier in the week, Sony launched a crowdfunding campaign for a pocket air conditioner called the Reon Pocket. The handheld device, which can function both as a personal air conditioner and heater, uses thermoelectric cooling and Bluetooth technology.
According to Gizmodo, “You basically slip it in into a special undershirt with a pocket at the base of the neck, connect to an app, hit a button and wham. Instant cooling. Or heating.”
In terms of specs, the Reon Pocket is compatible with iOS and Android operating systems. It has a battery life of 24 hours and takes two hours to charge via a USB-C cable. Two versions will be available, the Reon Pocket Standard and the Reon Pocket Lite; the former weighs in at three grams.
The crowdfunding campaign was launched on Sunday and as of today, it has reached 52 percent of its goal. As of now, if Sony reaches its crowdfunding goal and the Reon Pocket makes it to the market (only in Japan), it’s expected to cost about US$117 and US$175, depending on the model. The wearable air conditioner will likely be available for purchase in March 2020. – Relaxnews
