A team of nine firemen from Lopeng fire station was mobilised to the location upon responding to an alert on the incident at 4.07pm.

“They managed to control the fire at 4.27pm,” said Miri Fire and Rescue department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong.
One of the victims, Siti Fatimah, 57, when met at the scene, said that she was busy doing housework when she suddenly heard screaming from outside.

“I heard someone shouting ‘fire’ repeatedly, so I rushed outside to check,” she explained.

Siti was shocked to see that the fire her neighbour had spotted came from the upper stairs of her house. The raging blaze immediately spread to her son’s house which is nearby hers.
They were not able to salvage their belongings.
