KUCHING: PBDS Baru supports Sarawak’s power of autonomy over local government but it felt strongly that local government should appoint individuals with no political affiliation whatsoever to administrate it.

“We should stop political interests and creation of cronyism in our local government for the sake of the rights of our own citizens and community in Sarawak.

“This also goes for ketua kaum (community leaders) as well,” said PBDS Baru president, Bobby William.

He also said there was no doubt in the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg when he said that the local government is empowered by the Sarawak government as enshrined in MA63.

However, William said it is high time that local government be without any political affiliation as it doesn’t have any political interests.

“Local government should also hold election in which NGOs leaders or non-political individuals be elected to office instead.

“Having a non political person in office can create a third force of justice and equality for the community. It has been years that political interests played majority roles in local government which has to stop,” he said.
