Teacher wins Isuzu D-Max in Maggi contest

KUCHING: Wan Abdullah Wan Abdul Hamid emerged as the winner for the fifth edition of the ‘Jom Masak & Menang Bersama Maggi’ contest, taking home the grand prize of a limited edition Isuzu D-Max X-Series pickup truck worth RM136,000.

The 45-year-old teacher from SK Senari was grateful for the chance to win the prize after submitting countless entries and expressed his gratitude to Maggi as well as his family and friends who came to support him.

First and second runner-up spots went to Saging Giri, 49, and Zulmadia Kilok, 39, who walked away with RM5,000 and RM3,000 cash prizes respectively.

The finale saw the three finalists go head-to-head in a series of fun challenges such as the ‘Maggi Shopper Challenge,’ ‘Maggi 2 Cara Cook-Off Challenge’ and ‘Maggi Wire Buzz Challenge’.

Participants also got the chance to win kitchen appliances worth more than RM13,500 as weekly prices throughout the contest period and petrol cards worth RM100 for every 1,000th qualified entry.

The grand finale was graced by Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh yesterday at Plaza Merdeka here who commended the organisers for holding the event in conjunction with the Gawai Dayak celebration and looked forward to more Maggi products and events to feature Sarawak’s unique cultural and gastronomic heritage.

“With Maggi’s constant innovation to introduce new flavours to the market, perhaps we will see a uniquely Sarawakian product on the shelves that leverages on our unique flavours and local spices,” he said.

He also encouraged Maggi to further reach out to communities in Sarawak via a roadshow throughout rural areas in Sarawak and spread their brand philosophy of ‘Cook the Difference’.

“We believe that your brand philosophy which emphasises on promoting personal and familial wellbeing through the act of cooking wholesome, nutritious food to create a positive difference in our world is still a valuable lesson to be learnt and passed on through our communities,” he continued.

The same event also witnessed Maggi’s corporate executive chef Abdul Muluk Rambli delight visitors with his easy-to-follow recipes for local culinary favourites.

Visitors also got to put their spicy food tolerance to the test in the ‘Maggi Pedas Giler Challenge,’ a mini speed-eating contest which challenged participants to finish their Maggi Pedas Giler Mi Goreng bowls in ‘Tom Yummz’ and ‘Ayam Bakar’ flavours.
