KUCHING: Five masked armed robbers broke into a house at Mile 7, Jalan Matang yesterday morning and tied up the occupants before robbing them at 4.50am.

The house-owner, a 56-year-old contractor, was sleeping in the master bedroom with his wife, aged 51, when they were woken up by the robbers.

The robbers first went to the couple’s son, a 25-year-old accountant, put a parang to his neck and then bundled him into his parents’ bedroom.

There the robbers tied up all three and proceeded to ransack the house.

After ransacking the rooms in the two-storey house, the robbers made off with a silver Toyota Hilux with the plate number QCD 8099, jewellery, five  iPhones, an iPad, five bags containing various valuables, and RM16, 000 in cash.

The victims were not hurt and after the robbers left, they untied themselves and lodged a police report.

Padawan police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said according to initial investigation, judging from their accent when they spoke to the victims, the suspects were all locals.

Supt Aidil said they were all clad in dark clothes.
