MIRI: Two heavy machineries in a sawmill in Kuala Baram here were destroyed in a fire early Friday morning.
Nine firemen from Lopeng Fire Station led by operation commander PPgB Mohamad Ammar Firdaus were rushed to the scene located about 24km from the city centre upon receiving a distress call on the incident at 6.37am.
According to Miri Fire and Rescue department (Bomba) chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, one of the machines broke out in a fire before spreading to the other. Swift action by firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to the sawmill building.
No casualties or injuries were reported.
Some 20 workers at the sawmill managed to escape to a safe area when the fire broke out.
The operation ended at 9.58am.
The cause of the fire and loss to properties are still being ascertained.
