KUCHING: Place Borneo Sdn Bhd aims to raise RM2,000 for the Penan community through its zumba event — The Great Rimba Zumbathon (TGRZ).
Organisers of the rainforest-themed zumbathon are confident they could achieve its target, and profits collected from the tickets’ sales will be channelled to Helping Hands Penan, a non-governmental organisation (NGO).
The zumbathon, held at the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) on Saturday coincided with the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples that is celebrated on
Aug 9 yearly.
Malaysian Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (Maceos) Sarawak chapter chairperson Gracie Geikie officiated at the event.
“There are nearly 300 participants joining the zumbathon for a good cause today.
“And we hope to organise it every month or every year, so that we can raise more funds for the indigenous people in Sarawak,” she said.
Participants got to join in zumbathon that was conducted by Zumba education specialist Seon Young Moon also known as ZES Nana, from Seoul, South Korea.
There were also other activities such as capoeira, Muay Thai, and CrossFit sessions.
TGRZ also featured wellness talks by ‘Kamek Kitak’, including talks on drug abuse by the National Anti-Narcotics Agency.
