Exhibition on Archives, Citizenship and Interculturalism launched

KUCHING: Acting Chief Executive Officer of the  Sarawak State Library, Arpah Haji Adenan launched an exhibition in conjunction with the International Archives Day 2017 celebration   recently.

The ceremony took place at the library’s lobby. 

The exhibition is organised jointly by the Sarawak State Library, the National Archives of Malaysia Sarawak Branch, Sarawak Museum Department and Jabatan Penyiaran Sarawak. It will be held for one month from  9 June until 9  July, 2017 and opens for public viewing from 8am to 5pm at the library’s lobby. The exhibition is closed on gazetted public holidays.

With the theme of “Archives, Citizenship and Interculturalism”, the exhibition displays  documents on Sarawak citizenship in 1963 and earlier on as well as collections of poetry and Sarawak dramas which were broadcast on the radio during the 70s – 80s.

The exhibition is an opportunity for the public to get to know and understand the roles and functions of the State Records Repository in documenting the history of Sarawak and helping the public to access the necessary information.

It is also to raise awareness on the importance of preserving records and archives for long-term storage.

Admission to the exhibition is free. The exhibition will be held at the State Records Repository from 10 July  until 10 August, 2017.

Also present during the opening of the exhibition were Assistant Director of National Archives of Malaysia, Sarawak Branch, Anita Bt Muhammad Ishak and Head of Assistant Officer, Radio Section of Jabatan Penyiaran Sarawak, Faridah Sulong.
