KUCHING: Five rank and file constables have been arrested for drug abuse. This has been confirmed by state Deputy Police Commissioner DCP Dev Kumar M M Sree (pic). When contacted by New Sarawak Tribune, Dev said the arrestees were four lance corporals and one corporal – one posted in Kota Samarahan, two in Kuching, one in Sibu and one in Limbang, He said all of them tested positive for methamphetamine and are now on police bail awaiting their pathologists’ or chemist reports.
Dev had said the department is doing in-house cleaning under ‘Ops Blue Devil’ to get rid of personnel who commit drug-related crimes. He said so far, the department has over 80 such personnel in Sarawak. Drug menace has been hitting Sarawak’s rural areas for the first time, and now drug abuse in villages and outskirts of urban centres is as bad as what is happening in the towns and cities.
